Location SAMPARC Children’s Village, Lonavala, India
Creative Director Matthew Butler
Exhibition A Day on Earth, Brisbane and Powerhouse Design Museum, 2007
As part of our program for social responsibility we worked with traditional artists in India to document the art techniques facing extinction from India’s rapid modernization. Here is an article I wrote about the project for SANGAM India Australia Design Platform. Jan Murphy Gallery and artist David Bromley kindly loaned their Day On Earth gallery for the exhibition and film maker Mike Crowhurst made a documentary about the project that we launched at the Powerhouse Design Museum. Proceeds from sales went back to the artists and SAMPARC Children’s village where we created a temporary art studio for the month long art project.
Special thanks to: Production manager Shalu Sood and her family, Ken Butler, Mike Crowhurst, The Powerhouse Design Museum, Jan Murphy, Philip Bacon, David Bromley and the artists and schoolchildren of Lonavala for the loving artwork.
